A Few Of My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses
And whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

I’ve never understood why this song has been included in many holiday albums but alas…Welcome to the first of a new series where I share some of the things I love. Think of this of an expanded Spotlight Section - which has become a surprisingly popular section of my newsletter. I love talking with you about things I love! It’s so easy to lose sight of helping each other out and sometimes “helping each other out” can be as simple as a recommending the most comfortable bra in the world!

Taste

When I started my new job last year, I restarted my meal subscription plan with Hungry Root. You probably haven’t heard of Hungry Root and when you think of meal subscription plans you probably think of Blue Apron and Hello Fresh. Hungry Root is completely different. They offer more than just your typical dinner - they have breakfast foods, salads, hot meals, and even desserts. It’s completely customizable!

My favorite is the Crispy Sprouts Brussels Bake: baked brussel sprouts with a vegan cheese sauce and black beans. It is delicious and I devour the whole thing every time I make it. I also really love getting the Moroccan Spiced Chickpea Tagine. I’ll add some jasmine rice and divide it into 2 servings for an easy lunch to bring to work. Lastly, you cannot order HungryRoot without ordering dessert. The Black Bean Brownie Batter is my favorite though the Almond Chickpea Cookie Dough is a pretty close second.

Sight

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: the Hallmark Christmas movies are back! Though Superfans may notice they’ve already been airing last year’s movies since October. This year 37 new movies will premiere and I for one can’t wait to watch.

These movies are just the ones you’ll love to hate. As much as they are endearing and charming they are also misogynistic (the moral of the story always has the heroine abandoning her career to finally land herself a man) and grossly inaccurate when it comes to what life is actually like in colder climates. But it’s all in good fun, I promise.

I’m trying to figure out how to document them this year - live tweeting? blog posts? There’s just too much content to let them pass. If you have any ideas leave them in the comments below :)

Touch

If you listen to any podcast at this point you’ve heard of ThirdLove. Last year I decided to give them a try after the cups of my then bras decided to take on a life of their own. With their reasonable return policy I figured I didn’t have much to lose.

First, I took the quiz to find out what size they’d recommend. This seems weird to do from a “quiz” perspective but basically they ask you what current size and brand you wear, then find out what’s wrong with the fit, and recommend a size from there. They did recommend a smaller band size to me which I was skeptical about. Ultimately I went with my gut which I’m glad I did. But again with the return policy, I wasn’t that worried about it.

I ordered the 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra and I have to say it is the most comfortable bra I’ve ever had. I often forget to take it off when I get home after work, which says a lot because the old bras I still have immediately come off. I do caveat this review with the fact that I have never spent this much on a bra before. So do all $70-ish bras feel this good? I don’t know. But I found one that does. In fact, I just placed an order for two more bras. Time to get rid of the old ones and have a full wardrobe of proper bras.

I know the money may seem like a lot so I tracked down a referral link with a $15 off coupon code through this link. ThirdLove also offer discounts based on how many bras you buy AND they also just recently launched a rewards program. So it’s totally worth it.

Smell

You all know I love my Rewined candles. I discovered them when I lived in Charleston at the Farmer’s Market. The candles are made locally in Charleston and they’re made out of recycled wine bottles. They’re local, sustainable, and smell amazing.

I know you probably racing out to get your seasonal holiday candle, but you’ll definitely want to give these a try. Don’t be basic and get yourself a pumpkin spice candle, get a “Spiked Cider” one instead! And forget the Balsam Fir, you get yourself an “Under The Tree” candle and you’ll end up on the good list for sure.

Sound

The Greatest Showman is the little movie that could. Never expected to go anywhere, this movie eventually grossed over $400 million (with an $84 million budget) with experts owing the success to the soundtrack.

And now they’ve just released a REIMAGINED soundtrack. So now instead of Zendaya, Michele Williams, and Hugh Jackman’s voices, we get Pink, Kelly Clarkson, and Panic at the Disco. Obviously either version is great, you cannot go wrong here.

Also, if there’s anything I should checkout for a possible Spotlight Feature let me know here or in the comments! What are YOU loving these days?
